In 1966, Carl Lohren made a breakthrough, and One Move to Better Golf explains it all. Highly regarded as an instructor and player in the New York Metropolitan PGA Section, Lohren formed his ideal golf swing after years of studying master golfer Ben Hogan. His eyes were opened at the 1964 Carling Open when he watched Hogan select an 8-iron and take a short swing on a 150 yard shot. To Lohren's surprise, Hogan's ball exploded off the clubface and wound up ten feet from the pin! This inspired Lohren to start his swing by turning his left shoulder as Hogan had. Immediately upon doing so, Carl's ball flight took on a different look it had a piercing trajectory, with plenty of carry and roll. Carl continued to refine his method, so that in 1968, he won the NY State PGA Championship in a playoff over former Ryder Cup player Bill Collins.

In One Move to Better Golf, Lohren explains a simple method of starting the golf swing with one move that incorporates the fundamentals. In doing so, he gives you a framework of confidence for your swing. He also provides students with a complete methodology of the physical and mental preparation necessary for effective shotmaking.

Whether you are a low or high handicapper, One Move to Better Golf will give you a clear understanding of the total golf swing.

Carl Lohren has become best known for his innovative methods of golf instruction over his 50-year career of professional competition and teaching. Lohren worked as a PGA club professional, improving upon his game and studying the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour. After his mastery of the one move, Carl continued to excel as a tournament player, winning more professional tournaments, qualifying for the Champions Tour, in addition to competing in 11 major championships, 15 PGA Tour events, and numerous international tours. This is not one of those "secrets" to a better golf game. It is a fundamental that is taught poorly! Golf is taught poorly all over and only a few pros out there are making much sense. I have played this game at a fairly high level (low handicap) for decades and devoured hundreds of instruction books. I would put this one on my top shelf next to Ben Hogan's book and now Paul Wilson at Bear's Best In Vegas, Machine Swing Golf and his web site, "Body Golf." Listen to pros who teach the physics of the game and teach you simply through the fundamentals of great players' swings. All great players "hit" the ball with their lower body (core and hips) and not their arms/hands as 95%, no 98% of the golfers out there do. Golfers want to HIT the ball because it's a natural instinct. If you were fortunate enough to have a great teacher and learned young to use your lower body, then you probably don't need this book. But if you want to learn a fundamental that is well described, get this amazing book.

Recommended and shared with me 6 or 8 years ago by one of my very best friends Mark H., now deceased, I purchased my copy about a month ago to do a second reading. Mr. Lohren makes a very interesting point dealing with the left shoulder, as a side bar, the book reviews other basic fundamental concepts as well. GettMan.
Mr. Lohren's instruction is on par with Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons....." , Published in the 1950's.

One move to better golf is a must reading for anyone who has read Ben Hogan's Five Lesson's and followed his instruction. Everyone look's for Hogan's secret and Carl Lohren almost has it. He studied him and his one move when done correctly makes golf sense. Each golfer has to find his own way when hitting the ball. One move is a beginning and allows the golfer to improve upon this. Mr. Lohren, I do believe, is correct when he says the one move allows the rest of the swing to fall in place. I have had this book for several years; It was an article in Golf Digest written by Johnny Miller that gave me what I call the "pendulum mentality" in golf; that is the golf swing regardless of club (including putter) is a pendulum type of stroke, and the left shoulder is the key to this. One Move to Better Golf in my opinion addresses that opinion. Too me, it is an outstanding publication with respect to a "one move" concept!!!
This is THE foundational book to start your golfing career, either as a just for fun amateur, or as someone that wants to take the game seriously and do something with golf. I tried my best to relay this procedure and methodology to my 19 year old son, but he couldn't fully grasp what he was supposed to do. (He is very much a visual learner over verbally getting information). Once he got the book, the big light came on. "OH... THAT'S what you were talking about. Though we haven't yet gotten his consistency where it should be, he's now getting the amazing length that I had growing up and playing golf on high school and then college golf teams. Driver about 325 regularly. 7 iron nearly 200 yards all the time, etc. START with THIS book.
I’ve been playing golf for around 30 years. Carl’s method is the easiest way that I’ve tried to swing the club. I’ve increased my yardage by 1-2 clubs simply because I’m hitting it in the center of the face. The biggest thing is the ball is actually going we’re I’m looking. In about a month my handicap has improved almost 2 strokes. I had 5 consecutive rounds in the 70’s. I don’t remember the last time I’ve done that.

For some reason when things start going south in the middle of my round I can focus on his method and make a few small adjustments and I’m hitting it pure again. No more searching for my swing and digging myself into a deeper hole.

Awesome book. This is the method I’m going to teach my kids.
